CNN —A blistering and deadly heat wave is sweeping Europe, potentially bringing record-breaking temperatures. Parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Italy are all facing intense heat, with temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). Heat is one of the deadliest natural hazards – more than 61,000 people died in Europe’s searing summer heat wave last year. Sardinia and Sicily are expected to be close to the current European temperature record of 48.8 degrees Celsius (nearly 120 Fahrenheit), according to the ESA. Temperatures were expected to stay around 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) across the region into next week.

In the country's Adriatic resort of Nin, dozens of beachgoers covered themselves in thick black mud believed to have medicinal properties and an effective sunscreen. Un cutremur cu magnitudinea de 4,3 a zguduit sud-vestul Croaţiei în această dimineaţă. Epicentrul seismului s-a produs la o adâncime de doar zece kilometri, în apropiere de oraşul Sibenik de pe malul Mării Adriatice. Potrivit datelor preliminare, cutremurul nu a făcut victime sau daune majore, însă a provocat panică printre localnici. La sfârşitul lunii decembrie, un cutremur de 6,4 grade pe scara Richter a provocat pagube în oraşul Petrinja, în apropiere de capitala Zagreb. 7 persoane au murit atunci, iar alte 20 au fost rănite.
